GET INVOLVED
Since 1982, Greenwood Wildlife Rehabilitation Center has been dedicated to the rehabilitation and release of sick, injured and orphaned
wildlife. We rely on volunteers to help provide quality care to thousands of wild birds and mammals each year at our
facility in Longmont. Most of our volunteers work directly with the wild animals, while others provide invaluable assistance
with many other essential tasks.
VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
Animal Care Volunteer -
Animal care volunteers are responsible for feeding, cleaning, and general care of
the wildlife admitted to Greenwood. Specific duties include food preparation, hand feeding baby wildlife, cleaning
cages, maintaining a clean hospital environment, feeding animals in outside cages, and other duties as specified by staff supervisors.
We require that animal care volunteers commit to one four-hour shift per week for a minimum of 6 months.
*Winter at Greenwood: Over 75% of our animal patient load comes in between the months of March to October. This is mainly due to the fact that most of the animals that are brought into Greenwood are baby animals. During the winter months we continue to care for any injured or sick adult animals that come in.*
Facility Team Member -
Volunteers are needed to assist with construction and general maintenance of the buildings, caging, and grounds at Greenwood Wildlife Rehabilitation Center. Because of the many patients we see, our caging and buildings receive high use and ongoing maintenance is vital to our success (and greatly appreciated). Special skills such as carpentry, plumbing, electrical expertise, gardening, tree trimming, and general “handiness” greatly help to enhance our center and provide proper maintenance.
Greenwood’s Ambassadors -
As Greenwood’s Ambassadors, there are several opportunities to share your knowledge and experience on behalf of Greenwood. To check out these opportunities, please "click here"!
Gift and Thrift Store Attendants -
At our thrift store in Boulder, thrift store attendants assist with sorting donated items, maintaining a clean atmosphere, and assisting customers with purchases. More experienced volunteers may be asked to assist with window displays and running the cash register.
Grant Writer-
The grant writer researches, prioritizes, and applies for grants from a wide variety of governmental, private, and public foundations and institutions. Grant writers must possess a willingness to support Greenwood’s mission. Research and writing will be done off-site.
